The Struggle for a Family: Neonatal Loss & Infertility
This site had been developed to help us tackle one of the hurdles we face in continuing to build our family - financial assistance with IVF. After trying to start our family for 4 years now, the birth and death of our sons a year ago (Daniel Francis and Timothy Michael), the continued emotional struggles and pending financial aspects of this procedure - WE COULD USE SOME HELP!
With your help and through your generosity we hope to be financially able and ready, as well as emotionally and physically ready, to continue building our family in the near future. Beyond that, we also hope that through this site and associated links, that we can help others who have experienced the loss of children through neonatal loss, still birth and late term miscarriage; especially those who have spent countless amounts of time, energy and financial resources to bring the dream of a family to reality. Our goal is to raise enough money to help not only us, but others in a similar situation. Now that you know why we are seeking your help, we thought we should tell you more about who we are. We are Johnny and Shannon Doherty and we live in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. Johnny (36) was born and raised in San Francisco. He is one of eight children (4 boys/4 girls, tied for 6 and 7 with his twin sister). He attended UC Santa Barbara and obtained his degree in Sociology. At the age of 30 he decided he was in need of a career change, and became an electrician (IBEW Local 6, San Francisco). He has been in about 6 years now, completing his 5-year apprenticeship in January of 2003. Johnny is very pleased with his career change! Shannon (32) was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia and is the youngest of four children (2 boys/2 girls). She attended Siena College, just north of Albany, New York (where her Dad also attended) and obtained a Marketing/Management Degree. Shannon has held various marketing, merchandising and project management positions that have contributed greatly to her pursuit of owning a business-which opened October 2004. They have a relatively large family between them - with 10 siblings, 8 in-laws, 16 nieces and nephews, and a supportive extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Both of their fathers have passed away, Johnny in 1/1990 and Shannon in 10/2000. Johnny and Shannon deeply miss them, and take some comfort that Daniel and Timothy are with their Grandpa Frank and Papa Pete. Johnny and Shannon met in February 1995 while Johnny was living "back east" (as he would say), and started dating in June. The following November, (11/16/96) Johnny transferred from Fairfax, VA to San Francisco with his company - Shannon moved to CA February 26, 1997. They were married on April 29, 2000 in South Lake Tahoe. They remained in San Francisco for almost two years before moving to Marin to buy a condo. After two years and COUNTLESS home improvement projects they were able to turn the equity over and buy a house. They moved while they were expecting the twins, and now have extra bedrooms waiting to be filled! WE ARE BLESSED IN MANY WAYS, BUT LACK THE ONE THING THAT WILL FILL OUR HEARTS – CHILDREN WE CAN CARE FOR, NURTURE AND SHARE WITH THE WORLD! |
